It seamed as if I had been waiting at the back of the crowded hall for hours as item after item was produced and sold. Finally the auctioneer announced Lot 64 and held up the small dark painting in its ornate gilded (structure, shell, frame, border). He looked around the room impassively as hi invited (bids, sales, purchases, bets). This was the moment I've been waiting for.
