Fernando Olivera: El rapto.- TEXT FROM THE NOVEL The goldfinch by Donna Tartt (...) One night we were in San Antonio, and I was having a bit of a melt-down, wanting my own room, you know, my dog, my own bed, and Daddy lifted me up on the fairgrounds and told me to look at the moon. When "you feel homesick", he said, just look up. Because the moon is the same wherever you go". So after he died, and I had to go to Aunt Bess -I mean, even now, in the city, when I see a full moon, it's like he's telling me not to look back or feel sad about things, that home is wherever I am. She kissed me on the nose. Or where you are, puppy. The center of my earth is you". The goldfinch Donna Tartt 4441 English edition

Now it’s time for Americans to turn up their noses--a new study shows the U.S. is the biggest wine consumer in the world, beating out the vin-loving French. A Fox News anchor couldn’t be more excited.
FEMALE ANCHOR: “...and the best news I’ve heard is that we have overtaken France as the world’s top wine consuming country. I love this!”
MALE REPORTER: “We are officially out-wining the French, and who knew that that would be possible?”
What’s with America’s rise to the top? San Antonio’s KABB says...blame- er- thank- the American youth.
FEMALE ANCHOR: “Some wine stores say they've seen a lot more college kids that are into wine more than pitchers of beer. As for the French, they still have America beat in per capita wine consumption.”
MALE ANCHOR: “Ah-ha.”
FEMALE ANCHOR: “Which they may take some pride in.”
Of course this is all according to the California-based consultant group Gomberg, Fredrikson & Associates. Its study measured America’s 2010 wine consumption--and it looks like America boxed-out France by about 9 million cases.
MALE ANCHOR: “2010 Americans bought almost 330 million cases of wine, compared to 321 million cases in France.”
FEMALE ANCHOR: “Now granted we are a much bigger and more populous country than France but we're still beating them.”
MALE ANCHOR: “We are.”
FEMALE ANCHOR: “Is that good?” (Video Source: WTXF)
However, Time NewsFeed says it’s not a total victory. The French out-toast Americans on an individual level.
“[T]he average French wine lover downs 5 bottles for every one by an American...We hope you're not too broken up about these results, French folks. If so, go have a glass of Merlot with your whine.”
And while individual American’s wine-consumption has gone up from one gallon a year in 1970, to three gallons a year today, don’t stop and smell the rosé just yet... (Info: Miami Herald)
“A new study shows that drinking more than a glass of wine or beer a day could increase your risk of getting cancer. The study was published by the British Medical Journal and the research links alcohol consumption with cancers of the esophagus, liver, bowel and breast.” (Video Source: KNTV)
