Overview of Bilingualism in Education.


Bilingualism is the ability of a person to communicate in two different languages in equal or almost equal fluency. There are three types of bilingualism: compound, where the person learns the two languages in the same environement; coordinate, where he or she learns the language in two different contexts and sub coordinate where one language dominate the other. Bilingualism in education has been a subject of criticism for many years and many people have carried out various types of research on its necessity, benfits, disadvantages and effectiveness.
