Fernando Olivera: El rapto.- TEXT FROM THE NOVEL The goldfinch by Donna Tartt (...) One night we were in San Antonio, and I was having a bit of a melt-down, wanting my own room, you know, my dog, my own bed, and Daddy lifted me up on the fairgrounds and told me to look at the moon. When "you feel homesick", he said, just look up. Because the moon is the same wherever you go". So after he died, and I had to go to Aunt Bess -I mean, even now, in the city, when I see a full moon, it's like he's telling me not to look back or feel sad about things, that home is wherever I am. She kissed me on the nose. Or where you are, puppy. The center of my earth is you". The goldfinch Donna Tartt 4441 English edition

THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG.

Meaning: You can say something is the tip of the iceberg when it's just a small part of something much bigger.
For example:
  • The homeless kids who visit us for help are just the tip of the iceberg. There are thousands more we never see.
  • The internet is huge. What you can find through search engines is just the tip of the iceberg.
Origin: Metaphorical, related to the fact that most of an iceberg is below water and cannot normally be seen, and the part above water that can be seen doesn't give a clear idea of how big it really is.

Quick Quiz:
The corruption cases that are brought to court are the tip of the iceberg, and there are
  1. no more cases to uncover
  2. a few more cases to uncover
  3. many more cases to uncover
