Fernando Olivera: El rapto.- TEXT FROM THE NOVEL The goldfinch by Donna Tartt (...) One night we were in San Antonio, and I was having a bit of a melt-down, wanting my own room, you know, my dog, my own bed, and Daddy lifted me up on the fairgrounds and told me to look at the moon. When "you feel homesick", he said, just look up. Because the moon is the same wherever you go". So after he died, and I had to go to Aunt Bess -I mean, even now, in the city, when I see a full moon, it's like he's telling me not to look back or feel sad about things, that home is wherever I am. She kissed me on the nose. Or where you are, puppy. The center of my earth is you". The goldfinch Donna Tartt 4441 English edition

FACE RECOGNITION.

FROM TALES SPEECH:
I just finished reading a great book, The Mind’s Eye, by Dr. Oliver Sacks.  Even though the book is mainly about vision, I did find several chapters interesting in terms of communication.  One chapter in particular is “Face Blind”.
I learned that children are able to recognize faces at birth or soon after.  An interesting study by Oliver Pascalis was quite interesting.  It showed that by 6 months, this ability grows and children can identify a broad range of different features.  Then, at 9 months, babies are less adept at recognizing features that they are not exposed to.
The skill of face recognitiion is quite important to communication.  Like any other skill, we humans are predisposed to face identification.  But, it takes exposure to and practice to become very good at it.
The chapter made me reflect on children with Autism that I have worked with.  Once child had such difficulty with face recognition, that one day I arrived at our session with my glasses.  Since this child had always seen me in my glasses he did not recognize me.  This turned into a great therapy session.  Little did I know of the body of research behind face recognition.  I look forward to researching this topic to broaden my clinical skills.
