Fernando Olivera: El rapto.- TEXT FROM THE NOVEL The goldfinch by Donna Tartt (...) One night we were in San Antonio, and I was having a bit of a melt-down, wanting my own room, you know, my dog, my own bed, and Daddy lifted me up on the fairgrounds and told me to look at the moon. When "you feel homesick", he said, just look up. Because the moon is the same wherever you go". So after he died, and I had to go to Aunt Bess -I mean, even now, in the city, when I see a full moon, it's like he's telling me not to look back or feel sad about things, that home is wherever I am. She kissed me on the nose. Or where you are, puppy. The center of my earth is you". The goldfinch Donna Tartt 4441 English edition

The police commissioner said he couldn't comment on the record because the investigation was still ongoing.

Social Media Obscures Line Between “on the record” and “off the record”

Meaning: If you say something "on the record", you say it on the understanding that it will be part of the public record, and can be reported in the media.
For example:
  • Mr Lennon told reporters that everything he said was on the record because he was completely open and had nothing to hide from anyone.
  • The police commissioner said he couldn't comment on the record because the investigation was still ongoing.
Note: 1. Opposite to "off the record", which means something is said on the understanding that it won't be part of the public record, and won't be reported in the media. 2. If used to modify a noun or a noun phrase, hyphens must be added, as in "on-the-record comments".

Quick Quiz:
The newspaper's editor has to make sure all quotes are on the record before
  1. they are included
  2. they are corrected
  3. they are removed
